Objectives:
RECHARGE TO AQUIFER
- Promote the long-term raising and maintaining of surface water levels with full understanding of the ecological need for natural occurring low-levels in lakes and rivers.
- Work toward assuring conservative water uses that effects all users, public and private.
- Insure future quality of drinking water supplies through pollution prevention and pumping limits.
- Actively pursue surface water conservation for enhanced recharge whether by structure or other water conserving systems.
IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF OUR WATER SURFACE AND AQUIFER
- Promote use and research of biological weed control for exotics only.
- Promote public education of the necessity for Florida native aquatic plants, and the need for phasing out of chemical usage to reduce present silting disasters to lakes and rivers.
- Establishing of effective methods and speedy procedures for managing emergency sink-hole occurrences.
- Educate the public that sink-holes are a Florida anomaly and cannot be totally prevented nor is it desirable in many cases.
SECURE ACCOUNTABLE REPRESENTATION FROM SWFWMD
- All districts must be fully accountable to the public: not special areas or interests.
- Maintain pressures to force a sense of immediacy into the securing of vote control by every means. Seek help from all elected representatives to achieve this goal.
- Give credit where credit is due, but sternly confront every incidence that denies public accountability.
BETTER ACCESS TO PUBLIC OWNED LANDS AND WATERWAYS
- Open inspections of all land parcels when requested by TOOFAR or other incorporated civic groups.
- Improve recreational use of all public owned lands and waterways.
- Preserve, protect and enhance the eco-system of our land.
- Repeal all water districts powers to sell at will any public lands administered by them.
- Support needed and on-going lake restoration programs.
LOCAL SOURCES FIRST (view additional information)
- Keep committee monitors on all leads pointing to inter-regional transfer planning.
- Continue to educate the public on effects of water transfers.
- Actively pursue other allies outside our immediate area.
- Support desalination to eliminate the need for water transfer schemes.
USE ALL LEGAL AVENUES TO ACCOMPLISH ALL PRIORITIES
- Pursue Basin Board and Governing Board workshops to make presentations of fact.
- Appeal to local authorities, Governor and Cabinet.
- As last resort, determine litigation avenues.
